Scratch-resistant paint, glossy enough to see your reflection in, will always be a winning combination.

Paint glossy enough to see your reflection in, paired with scratch resistance, will always be a winning combo.

Awlgrip has recently released Awlgrip HDT (High Definition Technology), a high performance polyurethane sprayable topcoat. The product promises to combine hardness and micro-scratch resistance with repairability.

It’s designed to deliver a high level of gloss, evolving what we can expect from superyacht paint in appearance and protection.

Given the product’s claims, we selected it for a repaint project on a 40 metre superyacht which needed a full repaint and which was in search of a high-gloss, durable finish.

The team of onsite painters at Orams Marine is skilled at working with a range of products and, as the first applicator of Awlgrip’s HDT paint to a superyacht over 40 metres in the region, was confident it could provide the right test conditions to get the best from the new Awlgrip HDT.

Applying the paint under tented conditions within the Orams Marine yard, the result has been a finish which is smooth, with colours which appear true and well-matched, and a superb gloss.

Using other Awlgrip paint in superyacht refits is something the Orams Marine team has an extensive history with, so the chance to work with a newly-released product, and explore its potential, was an exciting prospect.

The glossy, reflective finish has been truly impressive and the Orams team is looking forward to applying Awlgrip HDT to further vessels in the future.
