Lifting Sea Eagle
Orams Marine in conjunction with Marine Travelift haul the 81-metre Sea Eagle in Auckland New Zealand. Built by Royal Huisman, Sea Eagle is the largest aluminium sailing yacht in the world.
The lift and manoeuvre were the result of months of meticulous planning and calculation, culminating in a smooth and successful operation. Sea Eagle is now securely positioned in our yard, where she will undergo a comprehensive refit.
Every aspect of this project is on a grand scale, demanding innovative solutions and some of the largest equipment available in New Zealand. The yacht’s three rigs were unstepped by Rig Pro using NZ Crane Hire’s 450-tonne crane, equipped with a 70-metre fly jib extension to reach the towering main mast.
Our Marine Travelift came into it’s own, with its independently steered wheels enabling us to carousel the 81-metre yacht on the spot before rolling her into final position in the yard. The yacht was then carefully lowered onto towers supporting the custom-built splashes.
